Advanced Polymer Resin for Medical Precision

Zeon’s Medical-Grade Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP) resins for molding high-performance injectables ensure exceptional strength, clarity, and drug compatibility for critical healthcare applications. Medical-grade resins ZEONEX® 690R, 790R, 5000 and ZEONOR® 1020R have been assessed for compliance with USP Class VI and <661.1>, ISO 10993, and JP and EU standards. Low Protein Adsorption and Aggregation

ZEONEX® and ZEONOR® COP are optimal for long-term storage of protein and peptide-based biopharmaceuticals. Compared to glass and polypropylene, ZEONEX® and ZEONOR® COP's low zeta potential and inert surface result in very little protein adsorption. Elimination of silicone oil from the syringe barrel further reduces adsorption and potential protein aggregation. ZEONEX® and ZEONOR® COP do not contribute to pH shift of the diluent, common with glass, thus reducing the chance for protein precipitation

Durability

ZEONEX® and ZEONOR® COP excel for drug storage devices where there is breakage risk. Compared to glass and Polypropylene (PP), syringes made from Zeon's Cyclo Olefin Polymers exhibit superior impact strength over a wide range of temperatures, including cryogenic storage conditions (-194 °C). ZEONEX® and ZEONOR® are also mechanically tough and withstand increased stress from injecting viscous drug formulations or from auto-injector syringes with high injection forces.

Low moisture permeability

ZEONEX® and ZEONOR® COP demonstrate a high moisture barrier property compared to conventional polymers. This barrier minimizes evaporation during storage, maintaining stable reagent concentrations. The barrier provided by ZEONEX® and ZEONOR® also helps prevent degradation of moisture-sensitive compounds, extending the shelf life of pharmaceuticals.

Sterilization compatibility

ZEONEX® and ZEONOR® COP Syringes are compatible with EtO, Gamma irradiation, peroxide, and steam/autoclave* sterilization methods. Compared to other plastics, ZEONEX® and ZEONOR® have lower post-sterilization haze, enabling easier visual inspection of syringe contents. The material strength and durability are also maintained post-sterilization.

*Grades ZEONEX® 690R and 790R are compatible with steam/autoclave sterilization

Manufacturing

ZEONEX® and ZEONOR® COP have excellent injection molding properties, suitable for standard geometries as well as precision micro-molding. The superior mechanical strength and flexural modulus of ZEONEX® and ZEONOR® COP make it ideal for manufacturing complex designs, such as in Wearables, that have a high risk of breakage when releasing from the mold.
