Breakthrough Resin Drives Innovation

Zeon’s Diagnostic and Life Science grades of Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP), offer glass-like clarity (>91% light transmittance) but with the precision molding capabilities of a plastic. ZEONOR® also has low autofluorescence, enabling improved fluorescence-based diagnostic performance and microfluidic device capability.

High Molding Precision

ZEONOR® is a high-flow resin that achieves greater microstructure resolution and repeatability in mold replication than other plastics. ZEONOR® can also maintain a high degree of flatness which is critical for imaging applications and device assembly.

Low Protein Adsorption

ZEONOR®’s low surface energy and hydrophobic surface make it ideal for microfluidic applications with a high surface area-to-volume ratio. Compared to glass or other plastics, these surface properties result in lower non-specific binding of proteins, nucleic acids, and cells. Decreasing non-specific binding is critical for ultra-sensitive applications such as dPCR.

Purity

ZEONOR® is an extremely pure resin and contains less-than-detectable residual metals and no additives or process aides. Microfluidic and Diagnostics consumables made using ZEONOR® have very low risk of contamination from off-gassing or extractables and leachables.

Chemical Compatibility

Unlike other plastics, ZEONOR® is chemically inert to most organic solvents, acids and based. ZEONOR® can be used for microfluidic applications that require organic solvents such as 2-phase lipid nanoparticle formation. Unlike Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), ZEONOR®P can also withstand extended exposure to organic solvents like Isopropanol (IPA), commonly used in diagnostics and microfluidics for sterilization and cleaning.

Low Autofluorescence

ZEONOR® offers ultra-low autofluorescence. This low background noise is especially relevant for dyes with UV excitation where polystyrene and other plastics have significantly higher autofluorescence. ZEONOR®'s lower fluorescence background enables lower limits of detection for ultra-sensitive diagnostic assays.
